Hasbro: the First 6,000 Classified Cobra Commander Throne Sets Ship With the Early Regalia

There is a version of the new Classified Series #221 Cobra Commander with Throne already in collectors’ hands that Hasbro did not intend to ship, and Hasbro has said so itself rather than waiting to be asked.

Writing in the comments of a Full Force Podcast Instagram post showing an early copy of the figure, Hasbro’s G.I. Joe brand team put a number on it: “Just noting we did catch the majority of the production run in time. The first 6000-ish pieces will have the regalia as seen here. The rest of the run will be correct.”

That is the whole of the official statement. Toy News International picked it up on August 7 and described the difference as the regalia on the figure’s right arm, which is the gold cord work that runs off the shoulder. Nobody from Hasbro has said the pieces are defective, offered a replacement path, or told anyone to contact customer service.

What this actually means if you preordered

Roughly six thousand units is a small slice of a mainline Classified run, but it is not a rounding error either, and those units went out first. If your copy arrives early, there is a reasonable chance it is one of them.

The practical read: this is a cord routing difference on the shoulder, not a missing accessory or a broken joint. Collectors on the forums are already describing the fix as a warm-water arm pull and a re-thread. If you open your figures, it is an evening’s fiddling. If you keep them carded, you now own the short version of the run, which is the kind of thing this hobby usually decides it likes about eighteen months later.

Hasbro’s own product photography for the set, above and at the top of this page, shows the arrangement the line art calls for. It is worth comparing against your own copy rather than against a photo of somebody else’s.

The set itself

Number 221 in the line is the full throne room package: the hooded Cobra Commander in the blue tunic with gold braid, a softgoods cape, crown, staff, pistol, knife, a snake-coiled globe, two pairs of hands, and the gold cobra throne that most of the attention has gone to. The throne is the reason this one sold through the way it did. Cobra Commander has had a lot of figures. He has not had a proper seat of power in this scale before.

Where it stands at retail

BigBadToyStore still lists the set at $69.99 with an estimated arrival of November 2026, checked this morning. That is a later wave than the units already moving, so a preorder placed today is not a preorder for the early regalia. Hasbro has not said otherwise, and we are not going to pretend a retailer estimate is a guarantee of which version turns up in the box.
