What is confirmed

Paramount confirmed at CinemaCon in April 2026 that a new G.I. Joe movie is in active development. The studio's new film chiefs, Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, named G.I. Joe among the core franchises with development underway, alongside Transformers, Star Trek, and a Top Gun: Maverick follow-up (Variety).

The script is written by Danny McBride with his longtime collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. McBride has said it is a suspense and action take on the property, not a comedy, and that the script is finished (Collider).

Plot details McBride has shared: the story follows Duke and a team of Joes in Springfield, a seemingly ordinary town that is secretly run by Cobra. The project is targeting a 2027 filming window (ScreenRant, Collider).

The Transformers crossover

A separate Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover movie is also in development at Paramount. It was first teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023), when Noah Diaz is recruited by a G.I. Joe front organization, and was officially confirmed by Paramount at CinemaCon 2024 (ScreenRant).

Derek Connolly (Jurassic World, Detective Pikachu) was hired to write the crossover script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy are producing, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment as executive producers (The Hollywood Reporter).

Chris Hemsworth entered talks in May 2024 to star in the crossover, in a live-action role rather than reprising his Transformers One voice part (Deadline, Variety). His casting has not been officially confirmed since.
