Although grappling with nightmares from his past, Stalker joins a covert G.I. Joe team on a mission in Sierra Gordo, where medical students are being held hostage by terrorists. Stalker maintains control over his troubles and succeeds against the terrorists. The Baroness leads a Cobra team into Darklonia to advise their military. Katya, a rebel sniper, pins down the Darklonian forces and engages in sniper warfare with the Baroness. The Baroness takes drives Katya away but neither sniper is able to hit the other. During the duel, the Baroness recalls her first meeting with Destro. While serving in Trucial Abysmia, Duke and Roadblock’s convoy is assaulted by terrorist forces and several vehicles and soldiers are lost, including Duke and Roadblock’s driver Maureen. After the mission, Duke and Roadblock tell Maureen’s brother about her death. Duke invites Roadblock to join him on his next assignment: G.I. Joe. In Qnrrh near Trucial Abysmia and Benzheen, Destro demonstrates MARS’ technology to the skeptical Sheik Ali. A sudden attack on Ali’s base compromises his defenses, resulting in Destro and the Baroness saving Ali’s life. Ali assumes Destro planned the attack to prove his superior technology and grants him a defense contract. Destro informs Baroness he actually hadn’t planned the attack but had given information to Ali’s power-hungry brother in Pakistan, resulting in the attack. Scarlett recalls how Snake Eyes was disfigured while saving her life. She tells Sean how she obtained a special mask for Snake Eyes to help conceal his scars, then presents a new mask for Sean to wear.
