G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issue 5 was published by IDW Publishing at a cover price of 19.99 USD.

As Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow (with Boris), and Cobra Commander follow their own leads about the Blue Ninjas, the Blue Ninjas strike back, killing Boris, and infiltrating Broca Beach with orders to kill the Commander via Revanche Robotics, their front company. The Commander finds out about the plot against his life when a returning Viper trooper finds his family dead in his home, and his uniforms missing, and it’s reported by a Tele-Viper on scene. Meanwhile, Duke, Scarlett, and Stalker take some accrued leave time to help out Snake-Eyes, as Snake-Eyes is helped out by the Baroness. As Baroness and Snake-Eyes leave a wounded Storm Shadow behind in the hospital for recovery to aid the Commander at Broca Beach, he learns he’s been infiltrated by Blue ninjas, under guise as loyal Crimson Guardsmen, forcing him to take extreme measures as BN-001, their leader, attacks him. Meanwhile, Storm Shadow escapes from the hospital before he can be questioned by police from last issue’s actions. Loyal Cobra troopers run to the Commander’s aid as their helicopters run dangerously low on fuel, forcing them to land and take control of a freighter to get there. As the Blue Ninjas press their attack on the Commander, Cobra’s aided by the Joes (who alos boarded the freighter as well, fighting off the Cobra contingent on board), as well as Snake-Eyes and the Baroness, reinforced by Mindbender and the B.A.T.S. Meanwhile, as Storm Shadow makes his way to the battle, he picks up Sensei Moskovina, no worse for the wear, to also aid vs. the cyborg ninjas. Duke, Stalker & Scarlett arrive to reinforce Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow as they join forces with Cobra to destroy the Blue Ninjas in Broca Beach. Cobra Commander’s battle armor allows him to repel an attack by BN-001 back at the cyborg and after the others have disarmed it, Cobra Commander executes him. With the battle over, Cobra Commander orders his men to capture the G.I. Joe team.
